Skating in Pajamas
It was finally Ellie's time to shine. Out in the open everyone cheering. She had been practicing for months. Listening to her coaches tips and pointers, and everytime he did she would assimilate them and try her best to follow them. There was never any dissension between her coach and her. He gave her tips and she tried her best to follow it.
She remembers seeing the poster in the locker room five months ago. The poster that screamed for her to come and compete at the annual ice skating competition. She knew if she wanted to compete she would have to practice. But she never gave up. She fell many times but got up and kept skating.
Ice Skating was her passion, she wasn't going to give up on it that easily. She wanted to prove to everyone that she could skate and could win. She begged her coach to help her think of a routine. After many attempts, he succumbed and helped her to train.
The day before the competition she dreamed of skating around the cold smooth ice, everyone cheering her on while she skated and afterwards they would pick her up on their shoulders, they lionized her, until she woke up to find her brother screaming at her. "It's late, you're late, Get up!"
She ran out the door still in her Pajamas out into the dark, cloudy morning. She rushed in her car and drove off. Yesterday she had put her skates and outfit in the back seat, so she would not forget. Looking back at it, she's glad she did. "I can make it if I hurry, I can do this."
She could've...But there was traffic on the highway, too much traffic. She thought that there was probally a little accident, blocking a lane or two, but instead it turned out to be a calamity blocking all the lanes. No one could get through. There was a big- ramp-looking tow truck blocking everyone. She was frantic. She knew if she didn't make it she would regret it forever. Her routine was perfect, the song choice was perfect, She deserved a chance and she knew it.
It was unbearable for her to wait in the car, the traffic was not progressing, the radio was playing bad music again, and the rain was pounding so hard on the windows she couldn't even think. So she took a risk. She drove straight for the big-ramp-looking tow truck, and well...used it as a ramp. The car shot through the sky, nearly hitting electric wires as it flew. Birds that were perched upon the wires flew away scared. And then the car came down, the people outside in the highway were screaming, the people inside the cars were screaming, and you could bet Ellie was screaming too.
The car landed with a thud. Ellie wasn't hurt but she was shaken. "I can't believe I just did that! It was...Amazing!" Unfortunetly for Ellie, Her car didn't survive the crash, it wouldn't turn on again. She knew she didn't come all this way for nothing, so she grabbed her skates, opened the door, and began to run through the rain in her pajamas. Meticulous not to drop her skates or step in any puddles.
It took about twenty minutes for Ellie to arrive at the Ice Arena. When she did she knew she would have to explain to the secruity guard who she was and why she was late. She could deal with that, but when the guard saw her, he screamed, like a little girl who just found out the truth about Santa, and also he fainted. Ellie would have loved to help him, but she was to busy searching his pockets for the keys to the door. When she found them she opened the door and threw the keys on his big, fat, jiggling belly.
She ran to the locker room to change out of her pajamas and into her beautiful, expensive outfit she bought just for this event. But when she looked down she realized it was back on the highway, in her car, two miles away. She nearly pulled the blades of her skates, but then she heard her name being announced. It was her turn. It was her time to shine.
She turned around and ran to the ice. Ellie skated into the center of the arena and struck her starting pose. As soon as she did she was laughed at by the thousands that were in the bleachers. Her face turned hot, but when the music started she began to skate. The crowd silenced when she did. They were silent until the very end. Then they clapped and cheered. They threw roses and teddy bears. She was applauded. They lionized her. And for the first time today, she was happy. Then a whole group of people came to grab her and put her on their shoulders just like in her dream, but instead those people were the police and the security guard from outside. And they didn't look so happy.
